Ketamine-Assisted Psychotherapy

Discover Your Inner Intelligence

Ketamine-Assisted Psychotherapy (KAP) treatment augments talk therapy, uncovering your inner intelligence and inherent resilience to process difficult life experiences. It is a powerful tool for clients who feel stuck in painful, persistent, and unhealthy patterns of thinking and behavior, reminding us that we are not broken. This medicine increases our propensity to make meaningful change by enhancing the brain’s neuroplasticity and stimulating regrowth of synapses, opening the door to our intrinsic aptitude for healing.

What is Ketamine and how does it work?

Ketamine is a short-acting dissociative anesthetic medication that is safe and legal. In tandem with psychotherapy, ketamine can provide rapid relief and sustained effects in treating rental health conditions. The medicine disconnects the client from painful feelings and removes barriers in order to safely process difficult memories. While it is FDA-approved as anesthesia, ketamine for the treatment of mental health disorders is off-label.

What should I expect?

We believe that the healing power of KAP is best experienced in a comfortable setting with the support of a caring mental health professional. Our clients self-administer sublingual ketamine that dissolves in the mouth, creating a slow ramp up and ramp down, gently inducing an altered state of consciousness for 45 minutes, up to 1.5 hours. While it is important to set intentions for treatment, it is also difficult to predict what each person’s ketamine experience will be like. For many, the experience enhances a sense of purpose and self-compassion, and creates feelings of connectedness to something greater than ourselves.

What is the KAP process?

Our process is designed to help clients feel safe by building rapport with the therapist and establishing familiarity with the environment prior to dosing.

  • Schedule a 30-minute virtual consultation with the KAP therapist. *

  • Schedule an assessment and obtain a prescription with a medical professional at Journey Clinical. **

  • Meet with your KAP therapist for a minimum of 4 preparatory therapy sessions to set intentions for treatment, create your KAP plan, and develop comfort and rapport.

  • Schedule dosing sessions (3-hour in-office dosing sessions are recommended 1- 2 weeks apart for a total of 6 sessions).

  • Attend weekly therapy appointments between dosing sessions to integrate and process the experience while the window of neuroplasticity is open.

* A $50 consultation fee will be charged to the client. Consultation fee is not covered by insurance; however, if the individual should move forward with the treatment, the fee will be applied to the cost of their treatment through Larchmere Center for Well-Being.

**Cost associated with medical assessment, follow-ups, and medication are managed directly with Journey Clinical. Journey Clinical does accept some insurance and can offer superbills if needed.
